CBU's online master's in integrative nutrition program will go beyond basic dietary guidelines by incorporating digestive health and root causes for imbalance, while looking at environmental impact, genetic predisposition, physiological and psychological factors for disease. Through courses in integrative nutrition, current topics in integrative nutrition and research in integrative nutrition, CBU's online integrative nutrition graduate program will teach students an integrative approach to the use of food, supplements and other scientifically responsible complementary practices to help promote a state of wellness.

Program Details

Consistent with the university student outcomes, upon completion of the M.S. in Integrative Nutrition degree, graduates will be able to:

  1. Generate whole-person, patient-centered nutrition care plans using functional and integrative medicine core principles.
  2. Effectively interpret and incorporate information from evidence-based reports and research to inform personalized treatment plans.
  3. Evaluate and apply business principles in the context of operating a successful integrative nutrition practice, medicine practice or within an organization.
  4. Integrate and apply nutrition, metabolism, clinical research and culinary fundamentals into integrative medicine patient-care plans.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to ongoing adherence to ethical and professional standards.
  • Nutrition Science Concentration

NFS 510: Advanced Nutritional Counseling and Education 

Students will learn advanced communication skills and topics in dietetics; use of appropriate education theory, techniques, and media in nutrition education, counseling theories and negotiation, interviewing, and counseling skills in individual and group counseling will be emphasized.

NFS 530: Principles of Integrative and Functional Nutrition 

This course will expand upon the knowledge of basic nutrition science and emphasizes integrative and functional approach to nutrition. The course reviews the fundamental principles and perspectives of conventional, traditional, integrative, and functional medical models to identify best practices for nutritional care. Concepts and tools used within these practices and how they align with the integrative practitioner’s goal for personalized, whole-person, relationship-centered, and environmentally sensitive care will be discussed.

NFS 580: Nutrigenomics

This course discusses the interaction between nutrients and other dietary bioactives on gene expression. The course explores understanding of how nutrients interact with the genome and the mechanism of action of nutraceuticals and dietary supplements in cells. Novel treatment of important diseases may be addressed through improved nutrition or the development of targeted health promoting foods and beverages. Students will learn about the current technologies and genetics testing modalities.

Pre-Candidate Accreditation Statement

California Baptist University has applied to the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) to open a new and innovative program to prepare Registered Dietitian Nutritionists in Fall 2025.

Our eligibility application was accepted by ACEND* and we are in the candidacy process for our proposed Future Education Model MS Integrative Nutrition, Dietetics Concentration. The MS Integrative Nutrition, Dietetics Concentration is not accepting applications at this time but will do so upon successful completion of the eligibility application process if the program receives candidacy for accreditation status from ACEND.

*The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) released the Future Education Model Accreditation Standards for programs in nutrition and dietetics (see https://www.eatrightpro.org/acend/accreditation-standards-fees-and-policies/future-education-model-standards-and-templates-v2022). These accreditation standards integrate didactic coursework with supervised experiential learning in a competency-based curriculum designed to prepare nutrition and dietetics practitioners for future practice.
